Rev. Dr. John Henry Campbell, Jr. was born in Marlboro County, South Carolina in the city of Bennettsville. He was the son of the late Elease DuPree Mohammed and John Henry Campbell, Sr. and his birth took place on February 20, 1953. Rev. Campbell was educated in the public schools of Marlboro County and completed his high school education in Trenton, New Jersey. He continued his education at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Campbell completed the necessary course requirements for his Master's and Doctoral Degrees in the field of Theology. He was the founder and pastor of Prodigal Son Ministry, as well as, the owner of Campbell Carpet Cleaning while he resided in Miami, Florida. Rev. Campbell also served his country while enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was also once employed as a Regional Manager for Walmart. He also accepted Christ as his savior early in life and subsequently responded to the call into ministry. Dr. Campbell had a great sense of humor and enjoyed laughter. The Dallas Cowboys was his favorite football team. Dr. Campbell also possessed a beautiful singing voice and it was a delight to hear him sing. He was married to the former Sonya Murph. On June 23, 2023 while in the comfort of his home located in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Rev. Dr. John Henry Campbell, Jr. answered the Master's call from labor to reward. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, but not limited to: his loving wife, Sonya Murph Campbell of the home; his children: Storm Campbell, Bennettsville, SC; Sarai Campbell and Stephanie Campbell both of Miami, FL; Russell Ransom, II, Richmond, VA; Shaun Ransom (Tristina), Charlotte, NC and Cameron Ransom, Dallas, TX; his brother, Timothy Campbell (Shelia), Bennettsville, SC; his sister, Eloria M. Pegues (Bryant), Charlotte, NC; his aunt, Esther Lucas, Trenton, NJ; ten grandchildren; along with other close relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023- 2:00 p.m. at The Berea Baptist Association Convention Center -1062 Highway 38 South - Bennettsville, SC 29512.
