Helen Ridges Obituary

Mrs. Helen Quick Ridges was born in Marlboro County, South Carolina on December 17, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Geneva Quick Johnakin. Helen was lovingly called "Slim Quick" by those who knew her well. Helen was educated in the public schools of Marlboro County. Her occupation was centered around Pre-Kindergarten Education and she was a certified teacher's assistant. After 25 years, she retired from the Marlboro County Public School System. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior early in life. She was a faithful member of St. Michael United Methodist Church in Bennettsville, South Carolina. She would attend church services regularly until her health declined. Although unable to attend, Helen consistently supported her church with her tithes and offerings along with her prayers. Her marriage was to the late Purcell Ridges, Sr. and they were blessed with three sons: Mark, Morgan and Roderick. "Slim Quick" had a great sense of humor and she was a loving person. In her presence you would be afforded a smile and hearty laugh. She had a great love for her sons, grandchildren and her family as a whole. She was also preceded in death by her close friend and cousin, Minnie Lee Ervin Pearson. On May 16, 2023, while in the comfort of her home surrounded by her son, Morgan and close friends, Helen Quick Ridges, transitioned from earthly labor to heavenly reward. She leaves to cherish her memories, but not limited to: her loving sons, Mark Ridges (Jarvis) and Roderick Ridges both of Fayetteville, GA and Morgan Ridges of the home; her grandchildren: Jalen, Kayla, Jada, Sanai and My'Onna; two sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Ridges, Bennettsville, SC and Thelma Ridges, Anchorage, Alaska; a host of nieces, nephews, other close relatives and friends. Special friends: Bessie Mae Drayton, Neil Kenley, and Helen D. Graham (caregiver), as well as others who will miss her dearly. Service will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023-11:00 a.m. at Quick's Funeral Home -118 Robeson Street- Bennettsville, SC 29512 with burial at Ideal Cemetery also located in Bennettsville.
