Annie McCall Obituary

Annie Carolyn McCall, affectionately known as Moodie, was born on September 6, 1948 in McColl, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Oree Whitner and Earnest Whitner. Annie received her education at Adamsville High School in McColl, SC. Annie married her High School sweetheart, Charles McCall, in 1968 in McColl, SC. Shortly after marriage they moved to Brooklyn, New York where they had two children: Stacey and April. Annie was a vivacious person who loved her family immensely. She was known for putting others first ahead of herself, that meant not just her husband and children, but her entire extended family. She was very close to her sisters, Peggy and Julia. They had a sisterly love that was unbeatable. Annie loved to cook and entertain. She would hold family gatherings at her home in Laurinburg, North Carolina for holidays and special occasions. In honor of her mother, Oree, Annie was an avid gardener. She traveled extensively with her husband and family. She was a fun loving person who had a spirit as bright as her colorful wardrobe and infectious smile that would light up the room. While living in New York City, she and Charles attended Salem Missionary Baptist Church. After working in NYC for many years, Annie and Charles retired and relocated back to North Carolina and settled in Raleigh where they attended and became members of First Baptist Church on Wilmington Street. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ann Lillian (Tenn) and Julia Ella Jones (Bernard) and her brother, Earnest Whitner, Jr. (Lois). On Saturday, April 22, 2023 while in the comfort of her home in the presence of her loving family, Annie Carolyn McCall, transitioned. She leaves to cherish her memories, but not limited to: her loving husband of 53 years, Charles McCall of the home; son, Stacey McCall; daughter, April McCall-Smith; 3 grandchildren, Kashanie Davis, Gabrielle Smith and Javan Ryan Smith; 1 great grandchild, Karif Collier all of Raleigh, NC; sister, Peggy Whitner Lakins of McColl, SC; special nieces, Pamela Smith-Payne (Howard) and Cheryl Morehead of Raeford, NC; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary McCall and Ann McCall; 2 brothers-in-law, Bernard Jones and Ricky McCall, son-in-law, Javan Smith, Raleigh, NC; nieces, nephews, other close relatives and many friends. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023- 3:00 p.m. at Berea Baptist Association Convention Center -1062 Highway 38 South - Bennettsville, SC 29512. Burial will take place at- 1227 Adamsville Road- McColl, SC 29570 in the Adamsville Community of Marlboro County, SC.
